Text Box: Intermediate target -Spot on the grass about 12 inches in front of the ball . Lateral water hazard -A water hazard that runs parallel to the fairway. Lie -Stationary position of the ball in the grass or sand; also, the angle of the shaft in relation to the ground when the club sole rests naturally. Links courses -Oceanside golf courses. Loose impediment -A natural object, not stationary, growing or adhering to the ball, such as a leaf, twig, branch or the like. LTD -abbreviation for lie, trajectory, and distance. Marker -A person who keeps score. Tee markers define the forward limits of the teeing area. Out-of-bounds -The outer perimeter of the golf course and any area marked with white stakes from which a ball may not be played. Overall weight -The total weight of the club. Par -Scoring term indicating the standard on a hole. Penalty stroke -An extra stroke added to the score as a result of a violation of the rules. Pitch shot -A partial swing motion used to produce a ball flight with high trajectory and little roll. Release -The un-cocking of the wrist prior to impact. Posture -The body inclination at address. Play through -Allowing a faster group of players to go ahead . Provisional ball -Ball played when the original ball is thought to be out-of-bounds. Rear side -Side of the body away from the target at the set-up. Rough -The tall grass area on either side of the fairway. Set-up -The preparation phase of the swing. Sand trap -A defined hazard area of sand. Stance -Position of the feet when taking the set-up. Staked trees -Newly planted young trees marked for protection -free relief is given if the ball and close to one. Swing length -The distance the arms and hands move during the back swing and forward swing. Swing weight -The club's weight distribution and balance from the grip to the head. Target -The designated area for the ball flight to end. Target line -An imaginary straight line through the ball to the target. Target side -Side of the body closest to the target at the set-up. Teeing area -The beginning point of the hole. Tee box -The teeing area. Tee time -Designated starting time, either requested or assigned. Twosome -Group of two players. Threesome -Group of three players. Tend the flag -Request for a player to remove the flag from the hole after the ball is hit.
